Jason Staines

Production Manager

At the Lab, our Production Manager is a writer, editor, and analyst with a background in journalism, economic diplomacy, and government relations. The team at the Lab love Jason’s witty email replies, dad jokes, and uncanny ability to turn our ideas for new products or website pages into reality.

Secretly, Jason always thought he’d publish an award-winning, design-focused magazine on international affairs. As it turns out, Tyler Brûlé got there first with Monocle, while Jason discussed international economic policy with India’s Ministry of Finance. It was an insight into the world of government and public policy that has held him in good stead ever since, particularly at the Lab. When he’s not working at the Lab, you’ll find Jason getting lost in Canberra’s bushland or ripping off Bluey episodes to entertain his seven-year-old daughter.

In a previous life, Jason was the Senior Research Officer for the Australian Treasury’s Post in New Delhi, where he helped strengthen Australia’s economic relationship with India and improve Canberra’s knowledge of the country. This came after more than a decade as a journalist in Australia, the UK and India. Over the years, Jason has honed his analytical skills with a Master of International Relations from the University of Sydney and his time as an analyst with Treasury. His experience of government and his ability to write clearly mean he’s able to help communicate the Lab’s work effectively.
