Victoria Cooper

At the Lab, our Senior Analyst is a foreign policy expert focused on the interaction of socio-political trends, development and security. Victoria is an experienced researcher and media commentator with a background in US politics, public opinion and the Australia-US relationship.

The team at the Lab love Victoria’s no-nonsense editorial pen, dedication to balance, and overuse of the stalling-phrase “that’s a great question…”. Secretly, Victoria is very concerned about being replaced by a robot. Fortunately, the Lab is all about using an unexpected-yet-compelling adjective, real-world collaboration, original ideas and respectful debate. So, she’s safe!

In a previous life, Victoria had the Sisyphean task of keeping up with US politics at the United States Studies Centre, where she was an expert in US politics, led public opinion research projects, and co-founded the Women in the Alliance initiative. She’s held academic and editorial roles across several academic institutions and NGOs, and is currently an Emerging Associate at the National Security College at ANU. She was acknowledged as a Young Woman to Watch in International Affairs in 2024.

Dedicated to understanding Australia’s place in the big wide world, encouraging critical thought and open-mindedness, as well as considering ‘why people do what they do’, Victoria loves fusing her interests, expertise and enthusiasm with the Lab’s.
