Collaborating Expert

Victoria Cooper

Victoria is a foreign policy expert focused on the interaction of socio-political trends, development and security. She collaborates with the Lab on selected analytical and editorial work, bringing expertise in US politics, public opinion and the Australia–US relationship. She is also the editor of the Lab's Intel.

The team values Victoria’s no-nonsense editorial pen, dedication to balance, and overuse of the stalling phrase “that’s a great question…”. Secretly, Victoria is slightly concerned about being replaced by a robot. Fortunately, the Lab remains firmly committed to unexpected-yet-compelling adjectives, real-world collaboration, original ideas and respectful debate—so she’s safe.

Previously, Victoria worked at the United States Studies Centre, where she focused on US politics, led public opinion research projects, and co-founded the Women in the Alliance initiative. She has also held academic and editorial roles across a range of institutions and NGOs, and is currently an Emerging Associate at the National Security College at ANU. She was recognised as a Young Woman to Watch in International Affairs in 2024.

Victoria is driven by a curiosity about why people think and act the way they do, and brings this perspective to her work with the Lab, combining analytical rigour with a strong interest in open, practical debate.
