Collaborating Expert

Blake Johnson

Blake is an independent national security and intelligence specialist with a focus on building capacity and resilience across the Pacific. He works with the Lab on selected analytical and advisory projects, applying structured analytical methods and a strong focus on practical impact.

The team values Blake’s ability to break complex problems down to their core questions and his commitment to amplifying the perspectives of experts across the region.

Secretly, Blake thought he’d continue as a neuroscientist. As it turns out, developing new ways to understand complex problems draws on many of the same instincts. When he’s not working on analytical projects, you’ll likely find him at the beach or camping somewhere around Australia.

Previously, Blake led the Pacific Program as a senior analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, where he developed expertise in analytical techniques, product development and workshop design. He also works with ANS Analytics as Intelligence and Data Methods Lead, applying rigorous methodology across a range of engagements.

Blake holds a Master’s in Security and Defence Management. His work sits at the intersection of national security, intelligence analysis and Pacific development, combining technical rigour with a partnership-driven approach.
